My sister talked me into joining CrossFit Vallejo a little over a year ago. I was reluctant due to past experiences with gyms, which can be intimidating. It took her a few weeks to convince me, but I finally agreed because the first week is free. I figured “what have I got to lose?”
On my 1st day, I noticed some T-shirts hanging overhead that said This S**t Really Works, and I thought to myself, I sure hope so. I’ve been coming regularly ever since, and with a lot of hard work I’m 60 pounds lighter and in the best shape I’ve been in since high school – which was over 30 years ago. CrossFit Vallejo is the only thing I’ve found that I actually want to stick with, and that’s primarily because of the people. The trainers are great, and they really know their stuff. Every day, they review the workout with us and demonstrate proper techniques for whatever we’re doing that day. There’s always at least one trainer watching the workout, giving pointers and offering encouragement. Even when you don’t think you have anything left, they are able to keep you motivated, without being overbearing or obnoxious about it. Mostly, they’re just nice people. My fellow crossfitters also help to make this a great place to work out. They are women and men of all ages and abilities. My kids even go occasionally. I haven’t met anyone that isn’t friendly and encouraging, and I never feel like people are judging me. They’re a nice group of people, very welcoming to new people, and definitely part of the reason I keep going back. Now about the workouts – they kick my butt every day. After every workout, I’m sore and tired, but always glad I did it. Even the warm-up is a workout in itself. Each day’s workout is different than the last, which is something I really like. It’s not the same old thing, day after day after day. Basically, CrossFit is a new twist on old-school exercises - sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, weight lifting, running, etc. Not a lot of machines, and nothing you couldn’t do at home with the right basic equipment. But that’s my problem. At home, I do nothing. There’s something intangible about actually going to this particular gym that makes me want to work out. So if you’re looking for a new gym, give CrossFit Vallejo a try. The first week is free. If you just keep coming back, this s**t really does work! It says so right on the T-shirt. Who knew junk food can help you lose weight? I certainly didn’t expect to lose any when I got ajob delivering pizzas this past summer. That’s how I found CrossfitVallejo. When I walked up toCrossfitVallejo for the first time I was 265 lbs, 5’8’’. I wore 3XL shirts and size 44 jeans. The trainers gaveme some flyers and explained to me that my first week was free. While driving back from the deliveryI decided to give it a try. The next day I was drastically unprepared for how difficult even the warm-upwould be. It had been so long since I had done any kind of workout so I was really in a world of hurt, butat the same time I couldn’t believe how excited I was. I really enjoyed sports in middle and high schoolbut my life had become very inactive since then. Crossfit was exactly what I was looking for.
At Crossfit I don’t have to spend time figuring out my workout plan ahead of time unless I want to, Iget certified trainers helping to make sure I’m doing each workout correctly, and I get to exercise witha team of people who encourage and push each other to do their best. Today I’m 210 lbs, I wear XLshirts, size 38 jeans, and I’m still losing fat and building muscle. I workout whenever I get the chanceand I’m stronger than I’ve ever been in my life. Crossfit truly did change my life. - Dan P. |
